So I could not write about money or entertainment on pentecost Sunday.
Not that it is a sin but I want to share the spirit with you.
Yesterday, I went for the Fals Experience II and it was electric.
The energy in concerts is so palpable and contagious. People you don’t know all jamming and moving to the same beat.
That is what its like with the Spirit.
The difference is that a concert, ends and you come down from the high until the next concert or party whereas you can always ask for the Spirit.
The Spirit strengthens your free will. That’s what he is there for. He connects the spirit in you to the Spirit that is God, universal, omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient.
And we all know it is through our ability to choose that we define ourselves and express love. Because if you could not choose then it would not be love. There would be no sacrificing, no compromising, no patience, no kindness, no forgiveness, no understanding, no empathy.
Now, the Spirit brings gifts. I am not talking about that fake speaking in tongues (at least I don’t believe it is divine, I just think they are making it up, cause the disciples own speaking in tongues was understood by the foreigners present, it was a uniting of the people scattered at the Tower of Babel.)
Anyway, Catholics recognise these gifts of the Spirit: wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. This gifts recorded in Isaiah make more sense to me than the 9 gifts in Corinthians. And you can be greedy and pray for all 7- cause they are all superpowers to have.
And even if you don’t believe as I do, you have a spirit in you searching for love and wanting to express love, searching for wisdom, searching for understanding, thirsting for knowledge, seeking counsel, dedicated to your values and knowing right from wrong.
So I pray for an enrichment of your spirit.
p.s. as assignment tell me your own definition of the four roles in the title.
