It is so sad…

Why are we not safe…

A girl once asked me. Why does it matter what we are wearing. What time of the day it is. Whether we are alone or not.

Why are we not safe…

A girl once asked me. Why does it matter what we are wearing. What time of the day it is. Whether we are alone or not.

Why isn’t my body respected, why isn’t my space sacred.

Why isn’t no…no; why isn’t stop…stop.

Keep your fantasies as fantasies.

I am not here to please you. I am not here for your benefit. You are not the hero in everyone’s story. In fact, you are the villain.

You are overstepping,

You are disrespecting,

You are destroying,

You are violating,

Do not transfer your problems to me by infiltrating. I can dress anyhow that is not an invitation. I can jog at midnight that is not a summon. I can walk down a dark street alone secure… without your cat calls… your stalking footsteps … DON’T TOUCH! NOOOOOOO!

I am someone’s sister, someone’s mother, someone’s daugther, someone’s aunty, someone’s niece, someone’s wife… but not your plaything.

It is so sad…

…that you have your way

…and still get away

…to strike another day

…and cause dismay

…so we pray

…please stay away

…so that we may

…go along our way

…happy and gay

God bless
